COSTA CALIDA & MURCIA REGION

 

LOCATION

Located at the South-East corner of the Iberian Peninsula, the region of Murcia is the ninth largest of the Spanish autonomous communities.

Situated between the regions of, Andalusia, Valencia and Castille-La Mancha, the Region of Murcia occupies an area of 2.2 % of the total area of Spain. It borders the province of Albacete in the North, the Mediterranean in the South East and province of Alicante in the East, the provinces of Almeria and Granada in the West.

ABOUT

Murcia has two seas the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean on one coast and a great variety of beaches to capture with secluded, endless white sand, and unspoilt coves. It has 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and an average annual temperature of 19ºC, which make the Costa Cálida the perfect destination whether in winter or summer for rest and relaxation.

CLIMATE

Murcia has a mediterranean sub-tropical climate, an average annual temperature of 18 degrees centigrade, with hot summers registering maximum temperatures of 40 degrees centigrade, and mild winters of 11 degrees centigrade in the winter months of December and January. The number of days per year with clear skies is 120-150 with approximately 2800 sun hours per annum. In general rain is scarce in the region, falling mainly in April and October, leaving the summer a very dry season.

The Region of Murcia invites you to wander about its cities so that you can discover and understand the diversity of its cultures, choose from strolling through Murcia, the capital of eternal spring, to become familiar with Cartagena, a city with over 3,000 years of history or travel to Lorca, also known for its extensive baroque heritage.

FESTIVALS

Murcia opens the season of festivals with the WAM in the city of Murcia, following this festival are the other summer international festivals such as the Cante de las Minas de La Unión Festival ( International Flamenco Vocals Festival) and the San Javier Jazz Festival. No matter what you like, there is something for everyone.

GASTRONOMY

The best part of the Region of Murcia is, undoubtedly, its gastronomy, there is a crossroads of cultures and this is shown in its cuisine. Traditional dishes, tapas in its quaint streets and squares throughout the year with its great weather, vegetables from the garden, fantastic sea food, typical dishes and excellent sweets draw an explosion of delicious flavours. The good weather allows one to enjoy tapas in its lively squares and streets throughout the year with traditional and new cuisine in abundance.

GOLF

The region of Murcia boasts 22 signature golf courses designed by renowned players which make the Costa Cálida one of the top golf destinations in Europe, where professional players as well as golf enthusiasts can play their favourite sport at any time of the year. All the courses are within a working radius of 35 square kilometres so one can play on more than one golf course in one stay.

WINE

The healing waters of the Region of Murcia are made available to relax and take care of yourself, via health resorts, thalassotherapy centres and spas, not forgetting the power of the Mar Menor mud baths.

The region offers you activities of all kinds in, from hiking and cycling near the sea and the mountains, to caving in tourist and sporting caves, descents by the Segura river, without forgetting that you can also discover our landscapes as seen from the sky either paragliding, hang gliding, zip wires or by air balloon.

NAUTICAL ACTIVITIES

The Costa Calida offers one of the best places in the world for sailing, kayaking, swimming, skiing, speed boat racing, kite surfing, windsurfing, standup paddle boarding, catamaran sailing activities, in numerous clubs, ports, sailing and sports schools. The Mar Menor, and the destinations of Águilas and Mazarrón offer one the possibility of hiring equipment, sign on for sailing courses under very favourable terms and conditions.
